Neurological Physiotherapy

I have over 15 years experience of working in the NHS with people with neurological conditions, both in the hospital environment and in the community, assisting them to improve their mobility, function or movement.

Delays in accessing physiotherapy can have a significant effect on recovery of mobility or function if you have just had a stroke or you have had a relapse from Multiple Sclerosis. Early assessment and treatment allows you to reach your full potential sooner.

Aspire Physio offers you the opportunity to have direct access and control over your rehabilitation. Treatment is in your own home or care setting at a time convenient to you.

Neurological conditions I can help with:
Stroke

You may have had a stroke recently or many years ago. I can assess your current physical ability and work with you to determine realistic goals. I can support you and your carers to help you reach your full potential both in and around your home.

Multiple Sclerosis

You may have been recently diagnosed or have had Multiple Sclerosis for many years. I understand the different symptoms and difficulties people can experience. I will work with you to assist your specific needs, providing advice, treatment and tailored exercise programmes direct to you in your own environment.

I also provide assessment and treatment at Derby MS Activity Centre, see www.mssociety.org.uk/branches/derby-branch

Other Neurological conditions

I also provide treatment for other neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, head injury, spinal injury, muscular dystrophies and cerebral palsy.

Testimonials

Since having Melanie as my physiotherapist I have gained greatly in confidence. She is always sensitive to my needs and responds in a most positive and encouraging way. Above all, she has the ability to understand my limitations and consequently gives me a series of creative and stimulating exercises which helps me to improve my general mobility. I also appreciate her periodic assessments which enable us to monitor my progress.I would thoroughly recommend her to any stroke sufferer who desires to improve his/her condition.

Melanie has provided physiotherapy services at our Activity centre in Derby for over a year now, and this is a service which is much appreciated by our users. Multiple Sclerosis is still an incurable and progressive disease, and it is critical that people with MS should do all they can to make the best use of their physical abilities. Melanie has not only provided physiotherapy assessments and courses of treatment, she has also given guidance on appropriate exercises and referred people on to other health care professionals where this is needed. Her breadth of experience is of great value to us, and I think physiotherapy is one of the most important services that we can offer. We have been very pleased with the service that Melanie has provided.
